Social Justice in Physical Education with Dr. Shrehan Lynch

Welcome to series 1 episode 3 of The Changing Rooms podcast!

After the success of episode 1 with Lee Sullivan and episode 2 with Phil Mathe, this week I am sharing a fascinating conversation with teacher, academic and author Dr. Shrehan Lynch. Our conversation focuses on social justice in the domain of physical education and youth sport. Shrehan talks to me about the issues of PE teacher non-diversity, traditional and modern pedagogies and what she hopes might be the future of our subject.

Shrehan is a physical education lecturer and teacher educator at UEL, very close to the 2012 Olympic site in Stratford. Shrehan teaches trainee teachers across a variety of course programmes and has a particular interest in the sociocultural aspects of PE. Shrehan is also a founder member of PhysEquity (formerly BAMEPE), a social change movement with the aim of equitable physical education.

Pedagogies of Social Justice in Physical Education and Youth Sport
Shrehan’s most recent publication, a fascinating book titled Pedagogies of Social Justice in Physical Education and Youth Sport is published by Routledge and is available for purchase directly from Routledge here. The book is also available on Amazon. I recommend this book for any educator interested in the future of physical education as a domain of study.

Please share our show as widely as possible and encourage other PE practitioners and the wider education community to engage with our work.

Big news!!! The Changing Rooms podcast is now available in audio-only format via Spotify, and Stitcher. Perfect for your commute, dog walk, gym visits or spag bol cooking session. Enjoy!!!
